Open AI dots just made AI agents work 24/7. What if your AI started working before you even asked? Not when you type a prompt, before that. It spots the thing you forgot, then quietly gets it done. I didn't believe it either until I saw it. I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie. I help people learn AI tools and actually use them in real work, not just mess around with them. And today, I want to show you something Open AI just dropped that changes how an AI agent fits into your day. Stick with me because by the end you'll see the one thing it does that no normal chatbot can most people are going to miss it. So here's what happened at their dev day event. Open AAI introduced something called dots. Think of a dot as an always on AI agent. It runs on GPT6 Astra. Open AAI's most capable model. But the big difference isn't the model. It's how it works. A normal chatbot waits for you. You type it answers. It stops. A dot doesn't stop. It keeps working toward your goals in the background. even after you've closed the tab and moved on with your day. Each dot gets its own computer in the cloud, its own browser, and it can plug into over 4,000 apps through the tools you connect. So, it's not stuck inside a chat box. It can go and do real things across the apps you already use. And it can juggle more than one project at a time. So, you can keep handing it new tasks without managing a dozen separate chats. So, how do you actually talk to a dot? You can message it right inside chat GPT on your desktop, on the web, or on your phone. You can also reach it in Slack and in Teams with texting on the way. And if you'd rather just talk it out, you can hop on a voice call with it. Here's the nice part. It carries everything you've said across all those places. So, you can start a project in chat GPT, share the details with your team in Slack, and your Dot still knows the full story wherever you pick it back up. And it works both ways. Your Dot can message you, too, with a progress update, a question, or a decision that needs you. You can also open your Dot's computer at any time and look over its shoulder so you can see exactly what it's working on. The more you work with it, the more it learns. It picks up your preferences, how you think, and what good work looks like to you. Now, here's the one thing I promise you. The thing most people are going to scroll right past when you're not actively working with your dot, it doesn't just sit there. It looks for ways to help in the background. Open AAI calls this proactive research. So, it quietly looks through the apps you've connected and tries to spot things that could help you before you even ask. But, and this part really matters. While it's doing that background looking, its tools are set to read only. That means it can look, but it can't send messages. It can't change your stuff and it can't take over your browser or your computer. It's just paying attention, so it can be useful. Quick pause before I show you the next part. If you want to actually get good at tools like this, come join us inside the AI Profit Boardroom. We've built a full 30-day road map that walks you through learning and setting up agents like Dots step by step so you're not staring at a blank screen wondering where to start. And there are four live coaching calls every single week where you can get unstuck on this exact kind of tool and ask your questions in real time. Link in the description or go to a profitboardroom.com. Okay. One of OpenAI's early testers had this happen. His dot noticed he'd forgotten to send something important, got it ready and sent it. but only after he gave the okay. That's the shift right there. It's not waiting for instructions. It's noticing what you missed. Open AI says they're already living with this inside their own company. A bug shows up in a chat and a dot starts digging into it right away. A new design lands and a dot turns it into a working app while the team stays focused on other things. It's an early look at what your day feels like when there's always something working alongside you. Let me give you one that hits home if you make content. Open AAI showed a dot working alongside a content creator. Over time, it learns your voice and what your audience cares about. When a new interview recording comes in, it goes through it, finds the moments worth clipping, writes up show notes, and drafts your social posts, all ready for you to approve. And when you make edits, it carries those changes across everything, and it learns what works for next time. Notice what's happening there. You're not handing off the thinking. You're setting the direction and the dot handles the busy work around it. Then brings it back for your sign off. You stay in charge of the final call. Which brings me to the part I actually like most. You're always in control. You stay involved in the decisions that actually need you. And you can redirect your dot at any point. You get to set boundaries for what your dot can and can't do. There are custom rules where you decide do this on your own, ask me first, or never do this at all. There's an activity view so you can follow along with everything it's doing, even the background work and step in whenever you want. And some things always stay with you. Changing a password, for example, the dot never does that on its own. Your own computer stays separate, too, unless you choose to connect it. And when it signs into a site for you, it can use your saved login without the model ever actually seeing them. On top of that, there are safeguards watching for anything that looks off. If the system spots a problem, it can pause or stop the DOT's work. So, this isn't some agent running wild. It's working inside the fences you set. There's also something called auto review working quietly in the background before your DOT does anything that could touch your accounts or share your information. It checks that action against your instructions, your rules, and its safety limits. That check decides what it can go ahead with on its own, what it needs to run past you first, and what you have to handle yourself. So, you're not stuck watching every single step. A lot of that checking happens for you. OpenAI is also giving a peek at what they call specialist dots. These are for teams and companies. Dots with their own identity and their own assets set up to own a specific job inside a business. They're even working with Microsoft to make those fit into the tools companies already use. And OpenAI says this is only the beginning. Down the road, they picture whole teams of dots working together on your behalf. So, who can get this right now? Dots are rolling out inside chat GPT to pro and business premium users in eligible places and enterprise teams including education and healthcare can try the beta once their admin turns it on. Your first doc comes included in your plan. You set it up in the chat GPT desktop app or a desktop browser. Connect your apps. Let it introduce itself and after that you can message it from your phone. Before I wrap up, let me give you a few quick tips so you actually get value out of this instead of just playing with it. One, start with a single dot and one clear job. Don't try to hand it your whole life on day one. Two, set your rules up front. Decide what it can do alone and what it has to ask you about first. That one step saves you a lot of worry later. Three, only connect the apps you genuinely use. A dot is only as helpful as the tools you give it. Four, always review the work before it goes anywhere. It's smart, but it can still get things wrong, so you're the final check. And five, lean into that background help. Let it watch for the little things you keep forgetting. That's where it really earns its place. And one last thing, give it a little time. The more feedback you give your dot, the better it gets at matching how you actually work. So, the first few days are really you teaching it, not just using it. A little patience early on pays off later. When you put all of that together, you can see why this is a big deal. We've gone from an AI that waits for you to type to one that quietly works on your behalf and brings you finished work to look over. That's a real change in how this fits into your day. Okay, before you go, two quick things. Right now, there's a window where most people haven't figured these agents out yet, and it won't stay open forever. The folks who learn this early get a real head start. That's exactly what the AI Profit Boardroom is for. About dots data use and usage limits

Dots are the always-on agents OpenAI introduced on September 29, 2026. On data use, OpenAI says it does not use content from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspaces to improve its models by default; on personal ChatGPT plans, the user controls whether dots' conversations and work are used for that. OpenAI also says it does not train directly on proactive research or on a dot's notes to itself, although information from them may be used if it helps inform an eligible conversation or task, depending on the settings.

Conversations with a dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits; tasks the dot starts or manages in Codex or ChatGPT Work count toward the usage limits as usual. OpenAI says that in the future users will be able to add more dots and scale each dot's output by increasing its speed or the total amount of work it can take on per month. The user can open the dot's own cloud computer at any time to inspect its work and can give the dot permission to connect to and use their laptop. For organizations, OpenAI is working with Microsoft to integrate specialist dots with the governance and security controls of Microsoft Agent 365.
