About OpenAI Dots
Dots are OpenAI agents designed to keep working between conversations. OpenAI introduced them on September 29, 2026. When the user is not actively working with it, a dot runs what OpenAI calls "proactive research": it looks for ways to help using the apps already connected, with tools restricted to read-only access, so in that mode it cannot send messages, change app content or control a browser or computer.
The example in the video's description comes from OpenAI's announcement: an early tester's dot noticed he had forgotten to invoice a publication, prepared the invoice and sent it after his approval. Each dot works on its own cloud computer, and the user's computer stays separate unless the user chooses to connect it.
