About OpenAI dots
According to OpenAI's official announcement, each dot works on its own cloud computer with its own browser and the apps the user has connected, and the user can open that computer at any time to inspect its work. The user's own computer stays separate unless they choose to connect it, and a dot can be given permission to use the user's laptop.
Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents, powered by GPT-6 Astra. They learn from feedback over time, can work on several projects at once and connect to more than 4,000 apps through plugins. Users reach their dot in ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile, or in Slack and Teams. When the user is away, a dot does "proactive research" with read-only tools, and Custom Rules let the user allow actions, require approval or block them. OpenAI announced dots on September 29, 2026.
