About world models
A world model is an AI system that learns how the physical world works, often from video, so it can predict what happens next. One of the companies building them is World Labs, which describes itself as a spatial intelligence company building frontier models that can perceive, generate, reason and interact with virtual and physical worlds. It was founded by Fei-Fei Li with Justin Johnson, Ben Mildenhall and Christoph Lassner.
World Labs' first product, Marble, uses its generative 3D world models to create persistent 3D worlds from images, video, text and 3D layouts. AMD and Nvidia are among the investors listed on its site. The video's description says AMD agreed to pay $8.2 billion for World Labs and also cites Google DeepMind's Genie 3 as an example of a world model.
